This is a neat little game, but also I’m left with a few questions:

  1. How exactly does the Save function work? If I click it mid-game, seemingly nothing happens; if I click it while paused, the camera moves somewhere. In both cases nothing seems to be different when re-launching the game later.
  2. I cannot select the iron rods in the crafting menu and I cannot figure out what I’m missing

oh sorry, i guess i didn't really explain the bottom buttons! those are used for recentering the map onto a particular spot, and the save button saves the current map position so you can recenter onto a "home" spot if you want to make one. the iron rods thing seems to be a consequence of a fix i made so that when you press the craft button you don't select whatever crafting recipe is currently underneath the button. it thinks the iron rods crafting recipe is just slightly offscreen so it's stopping you from clicking it. i'll try and fix that up!

okay i uploaded a new version, it should be fixed up now!

Cheers! That worked.

Having played the game till “NG+” now, some thoughts:

  • The combination of somewhat-finite resources and mixed turn-based/real-time gameplay gives a vague sense of urgency, which I think is a concept that can be explored further. It is not a trait exclusive to Duskreach (ores in Valheim come to mind), but you don’t usually get to look at the world from above as you scroll past sections in search of a resource.
  • Having a keybind to pause/unpause would be nice - I’d propose the spacebar since the keyboard is currently all but unused anyway.
  • The tooltips don’t show up while paused, which led to me placing a certain building right in the middle of my base at first.
  • Overall everything works pretty well! Some things (like inventory management) could have become an issue, but the game isn’t big, so they don’t.

OH NO i can imagine what building you mean!!!! that should be easy to fix haha. i can definitely add a pause keybind too. thank you very much for the feedback!

Played through about as far as I think I could, it was fun!
I made the void node but, I think there wasn't enough dark crystals on the map for me to do anything with it but create a few shadow bars. Definitely didn't seem to be able to make the reset item.

Not sure if you plan to work on it further but, some notes;

  • The mining speed is good but I think it would feel nice if just walking was about 2x as fast, like it is in the Dawn.
  • There were some items I didn't seem to find a use for like the Charcoal
  • The workbench Mk.3 doesnt let you craft stuff that the Mk.2 does in 1.0.2
  • I think it'd be fun if you could make soup with berries and water, or something. Just to have something else for the food tab.
  • I like the mechanic of dropping logs onto the fire and i wonder if it'd be cool to have other buildings/machines you interact with that way. I had thought you might also be able to put charcoal on it to make it burn brighter or longer or something.
  • I think the darkness could stand to damage you faster even in first cycle
  • An option to fullscreen or scale up the window would be nice, it's a bit small on 4k monitor. Maybe it exists but I didn't see how.

anyway, nice work! really liked the little sprites and you have a fun little collect-and-upgrade loop going.

uh oh! i thought i checked the workbench compatibility stuff thoroughly, oops. also yeah i think some stuff went unused when i downscaled. thanks for all the feedback, i'd love to incorporate what i can!

i made an update with a bunch of changes and fixes based on this and some other comments! thanks again 'w'

I like the game so far but there seems to be a bug preventing the Workbench Mk2 from being crafted! The materials are expended but it doesn't appear in the inventory.

oh maybe i could have explained that better! crafting a higher tier workbench automatically changes the workbench that you're next to into the new one. at least i hope it does?

ok well i tested it and it crashed!!! cuz i'm a dork. i added a fix for it!

Thanks, it works!

Sorry to bother you again but I encountered another issue with the Workbench Mk2. Crafting it doesn't unlock any new items, and it can't be used it to craft the regular Workbench items either.

The Workbench Mk2 strikes again!

NOOOO OMG i can't believe i didn't think of that!! ok i will look into it asap!

okay it should be fixed!! thank you so much for telling me!
